EXCERCISES FOR THE VESSELS OF THE LOCAL AUTHORITY

The 3 vessels of the local authority, NORDET, SUROÎT, JEUNE France and the management of SPM Ferries carried out large-scale exercises on 7 and 8 June at sea. SPM Ferries is naturally part of the SAREX 2022 program to carry out these annual exercises, as required by international and national regulations





Benefiting from very good weather conditions, the vessels were able to practice hoisting, towing, collision at sea, medical assistance and fire fighting in partnership with the FULMAR vessel, the Canadian Coast Guard and the SNSM vessel Jaro II.

Annual rescue drill

On June 23, 2021, SPM Ferries conducted a major annual drill. This is an obligation imposed by international regulations (SOLAS, ISM, HSC). This exercise implements the SAR (Search and Rescue) plan at our level. It therefore involves local assistance resources such as the SNSM launch JARO 2, the RADAR IV and the SPM Ferries vessels: NORDET, SUROÎT and JEUNE FRANCE.

The final goal was to train the crews and management of SPM Ferries in emergency and assistance situations.

The actions carried out were fire fighting, passenger evacuation, and various towing operations. Thank you to all the participants.

TRAINING OF OURS TEAMS

Five seamen and three operating agents had the opportunity to participate in the safe driving training provided by the Association for Continuing Education (AFC) in Saint-Pierre. This training was held from June 14 to 17 in the AFC premises for the theoretical part and on site for the practical part.

The whole staff was able to benefit from a quality training with the different objectives were:

– To obtain knowledge and acquire practical know-how in terms of safety and prevention concerning the driving of self-propelled forklifts;

– To take a critical look at their workstation and apply the basic principles of safety at work ;

– To participate in the improvement of working conditions when driving self-propelled forklifts.

All of them were able to validate their safety driving training and will soon receive their driving authorisation.

Relocation of the Saint-Pierre ticket office

SPM Ferries is pleased to announce the relocation of its ticket office in Saint-Pierre. We are still in the ferry terminal but facing you when you enter the station.

This new space, twice the size of the previous one, will facilitate the accessibility of the ticket office to users and improve the working conditions of our agents. We will be ready to start the summer season and to welcome you in a much more pleasant space.

The work was carried out by SPM Ferries’ operations department, who we would like to thank for the quality of their work.

Happy Birthday!!! It’s already been a year…

It’s already been a year since the ship NORDET started sailing between our islands. Meanwhile, the vessel SUROIT will celebrate its one year of exploitation on June 18th.

For one year, 45 people work daily to ensure the quality of the service that is offered.

In one year, SPM Ferries has completed 625 rotations, carried around 52,000 passengers and 1730 vehicles.

Recently the ferry terminal has come into service and welcomes you in better conditions.

Soon SPM Ferries will offer you a freight service adapted to your needs. Step by step, SPM Ferries builds its transport offer in order to meet the demand of all users.

DIRECT CROSSING BETWEEN FORTUNE and MIQUELON

For SPM Ferries the month of May is the beginning of the summer season with a progressive increase of crossings with FORTUNE.

Crossings are scheduled on Saturday and it is now possible on Mondays in May to come directly from Fortune to Miquelon, to spend a few hours and return to Saint-Pierre the same evening, or to stay a few days.

From June until the end of September, these direct crossings between Fortune and Miquelon will be scheduled  on Mondays and Saturdays.
